Quar­tet among the elite af­ter record re­lay time

GUILD­FORD & Go­dalm­ing Ath­let­ics Club’s U20 women’s 4x100m re­lay team have bro­ken a na­tional record.

They ac­tu­ally broke the record in July but have only just found out the news.

Megan Hil­drew, Jemma Wood, El­lie Grove and Olivia Okoli com­peted in the in­vi­ta­tion Club Con­nect re­lays, which were held at the Olympic Sta­dium in Strat­ford as part of the Di­a­mond League meet­ing last month.

Not only did they win their race, but the club have this week been in­formed the team’s time of 45.75sec broke the na­tional record for an U20 club team.

This re­sult now makes them the fifth fastest se­nior team in the coun­try, the four ahead of them be­ing in­ter­na­tional quar­tets.

The women are now the sec­ond fastest U20 team – the fastest be­ing the GB team that won a bronze medal in the U20 Euro­pean Cham­pi­onships and of which Okoli was a mem­ber.

She also came fourth in the in­di­vid­ual 100m.
