Sam shows Flames desire
FORMER Great Britain U18 and U20 star Sam Godfrey has resigned for Guildford Flames. Godfrey will fill one of Flames’ 23-and-under slots when he spends a fourth season in Guildford while gaining his first opportunity to play in the country’s top flight.
The 23-year-old defenceman had six assists last season in an injury-plagued schedule that totalled 37 league and play-off games.
He arrived in 2014/15 and has since made 162 starts, scoring three goals and 23 points along with 152 penalty minutes.
Head coach Paul Dixon, said: “Sam had a tough year last year after getting hurt in a pre-season challenge match, but he recovered well to put in a good second half.
“We are pleased that we have an opportunity to include Sam in our inaugural Elite League season. He has a true desire to be a competitor and to reach his full potential, and getting a taste of the higher level of play will be very valuable experience in terms if his personal aspirations as a player.”
Internationally, Godfrey has 15 World Junior games to his credit. He iced five times with the U18 side during the 2012 tournament and added five games each with the U20 team in 2013 and 2014.
