Sam shows Flames de­sire

FOR­MER Great Bri­tain U18 and U20 star Sam God­frey has re­signed for Guild­ford Flames. God­frey will fill one of Flames’ 23-and-un­der slots when he spends a fourth sea­son in Guild­ford while gain­ing his first op­por­tu­nity to play in the coun­try’s top flight.

The 23-year-old de­fence­man had six as­sists last sea­son in an in­jury-plagued sched­ule that to­talled 37 league and play-off games.

He ar­rived in 2014/15 and has since made 162 starts, scor­ing three goals and 23 points along with 152 penalty min­utes.

Head coach Paul Dixon, said: “Sam had a tough year last year af­ter get­ting hurt in a pre-sea­son chal­lenge match, but he re­cov­ered well to put in a good sec­ond half.

“We are pleased that we have an op­por­tu­nity to in­clude Sam in our in­au­gu­ral Elite League sea­son. He has a true de­sire to be a com­peti­tor and to reach his full po­ten­tial, and get­ting a taste of the higher level of play will be very valu­able ex­pe­ri­ence in terms if his per­sonal as­pi­ra­tions as a player.”

In­ter­na­tion­ally, God­frey has 15 World Ju­nior games to his credit. He iced five times with the U18 side dur­ing the 2012 tour­na­ment and added five games each with the U20 team in 2013 and 2014.
