Tangerines enjoy four-midable day to leap six places

ASHFORD Town (Middx) secured three more points on Saturday with a 4-2 win away at Uxbridge.

The Tangerines were quick out of the blocks and took the lead in the second minute when Scott Weight delivered a perfect pass for Jack Beadle to rifle past home goalkeeper Paul McCarthy.

Ashford’s neat passing game looked likely to pay dividends but instead it was the hosts who scored next, levelling the game on 19 minutes when Beadle’s clumsy foul left Luke Warnerley to find the net with a free-kick.

Just 10 minutes later Ashford, who still looked the stronger side, were in front again thanks to Mark Bitmead’s unstoppable strike. Strike partner Dan Fleming then joined him on the scoresheet when he latched on to Bitmead’s freekick and fired across the goal to give the visitors a 3-1 lead at half-time.

Uxbridge mounted a comeback in the second half but were unable to break through Ashford’s defensive duo of Russell Canderton and Samad Kazi.

And the visitors’ fourth goal arrived just past the hour mark.

Bitmead was brought down in the act of scoring by McCarthy and Alex Fisher put the penalty kick away.

Though Uxbridge were able to pull a goal back on 76 minutes through Dylan Kearney, they were unable to make any further headway.

Ashford’s victory saw them jump six places in the table to fifth. Their next outing is away to Marlow (tomorrow) Saturday in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup.
