Peace shattered by armed response
FOLLOWING the Cavendish Road evacuation, Sunbury residents expressed their shock. Deborah Riddle said: “My son came and said to me that there was lots of police outside, so I went upstairs and looked out the windows and there was loads of armed police walking up the road.
“They were knocking on doors. They said that we had to evacuate, they didn’t know for how long and they gave us no reason.
“You wouldn’t expect it around here. It’s a very quiet road. It’s friendly.”
After visiting residents, the Police and Crime Commissioner for Surrey, David Munro, praised the ‘stoicism and community spirit’ of the people of Sunbury.
