Spotlight on Smith as she takes gold
AN EFFINGHAM schoolgirl has done the double by winning gold twice in the UK Trampoline League series and guaranteeing her a place in the competition’s finals at the Olympic velodrome in London in December.
All eyes were on Emily Smith as she competed in the League 3 female 15-16 event at Birmingham University’s sport and fitness arena, with expectations high following her stunning first-place finish at the Cardiff event in June.
Executing two fantastic routines, Smith kept her cool to qualify in first place for the final round, continuing her excellent form to finish first and take her second gold medal of the series.
Emily is a pupil at St Teresa’s School, Effingham and trains with Dorkingbased trampoline club, Gatwick Flyers.
Flyers head coach Jacqui Gevaux said: “The Birmingham event was the largest trampoline competition ever held in the UK, in terms of numbers of competitors.
“To bring home a second individual gold is a remarkable achievement which Emily has worked hard for.”
