Ro­bots could soon be pick­ing rasp­ber­ries in the Sur­rey coun­try­side after a soft fruit grower signed up to test a new har­vest­ing sys­tem. Hall Hunter Part­ner­ship, which has a 469-acre farm in Go­dalm­ing, has agreed to field test high-tech har­vest­ing ro­bots in part­ner­ship with the Univer­sity of Ply­mouth spinout, Field­work Ro­bot­ics. The Al­bert Arms in Esher, which has been closed since 2016, re­cently re­opened for busi­ness, cre­at­ing 26 jobs in the process. The pub has been ex­ten­sively re­fur­bished by Lon­don brewer and pub com­pany Fuller’s. Hogs Back Brew­ery is ex­pect­ing a top-qual­ity hop crop after this sum­mer’s heat­wave as it pre­pares to move to a big­ger site next year. The new hop gar­den is more than dou­ble the size of the ex­ist­ing one – a to­tal of eight acres, com­pared to the cur­rent 3.5 acres – and is lo­cated within Manor Farm, where the brew­ery it­self is sited. The Great Taste Awards 2018 has named Terra Rossa win­ner of the Golden Fork prize for its Baba’s Rashi & Dibis with Sesame Seeds. The Sut­ton-based com­pany’s tahini and mo­lasses spread was de­scribed by the judges as a “great mar­riage of sweet and savoury”. Web: ter­rarossa.com
