The ti­tle says it all – it’s hard to be­lieve this is Sur­rey and not Provence. The colours and com­po­si­tion are out­stand­ing.

me­mo­rial Flame for Dun­blane, has cre­ated a beau­ti­ful bench at Gib­bert Hill. This is one of five artis­tic benches cre­ated as part of the In­spir­ing Views project along the Green­sand Way – see sur­rey­ dis­cover/arts-cul­ture­views for de­tails.

Hind­head cross­roads, was formerly a well­known con­ges­tion spot, where the A3 be­tween Portsmouth and Lon­don was crossed by the A287 be­tween Hook and Hasle­mere. The A3 now passes un­derneath this beauty spot, in the Hind­head Tun­nel. The old route along the Punch Bowl has been cov­ered with soil ex­tracted from the tun­nel and re­land­scaped.

8At a seat be­neath trees, leave the main track to bear left up­hill. It is sign­posted for Gib­bert Hill. Cross an open space where five ways meet. En­joy the view from the tri­an­gu­la­tion point on your right and the Celtic Cross to your left. From this view­point turn right down a small path for 100 yards to en­joy a beau­ti­ful­ly­carved bench cre­ated by Sir Wal­ter Bai­ley, as part of the Sur­rey Hills In­spir­ing Views project. Re­turn to Gib­bert Hill view­point.
