OXNEY ORGANIC WINE ESTATE Beckley Kristin Syltevik, owner 01797 260137; www.oxneyestate.com

“It is an incredible honour to be a finalist and a big boost for us as a business. The environment has been at the centre of our farm and vineyard since we started farming in 2009 – we started by converting our land to organic and now we are also making our own bioenergy, growing organic crops, making organic wine and looking after our flock of organic sheep. The impact on our immediate environment is clear to see – not only is wildlife and birdlife abundant but the biodiversity above and below ground has improved dramatically leading to healthy and tasty crops.”

CHARLOTTE’S CUPBOARD Burgess Hill Thalassa de Burgh-milne and Charlotte Cross, co-founders and directors 07940 731465; charlottescupboard.com

“We live plastic-free lives and make decisions based on how we impact the planet. We offer convenient solutions for plastic-free shopping, via home deliveries and markets. Our business is set up to combat how we as individuals are negatively impacting the planet, but we also take into account the impact of our business. Every decision we make is important – from our electric van to local suppliers. We aren’t simply running a business, we are encouraging people to live sustainably and thoughtfully.”

TRENCHMORE FARM Cowfold Rachel Knowles, farmer 01403 864419; www.trenchmore.co.uk

“Trenchmore is a small, family farm in Cowfold and we are delighted to be finalists. We would like to give a massive thank you to the wonderful people who nominated us, to everyone who has worked with us and all our customers who have supported us over the years. We are producing the best beef, cider and grains we can while farming with nature and the future in mind. A virtuous circle! Our happy cattle turn permanent pasture, apple pomace and brewer’s grains into delicious beef, their muck feeds the soils which grows grains and the straw for their winter bedding. Good food – grown well.”
