JURASSIC PARK
Barney wasn’t the only big dinosaur of this year, as Jurassic Park left audiences terrified and awed worldwide with its jaw dropping special effects, bringing the prehistoric monsters to the 20th century. Like many blockbuster films it was inundated with merchandise, from lunchboxes to cuddly tyrannosaurus, as well as an official tie-in board game. Jurassic Park Game saw 2-4 players racing across the park to escape, throwing dinosaurs in the way of each other like terrifying banana peels.
Thankfully the series has since seen a lot more enticing games, such as the one versus all Jurassic Park: Danger! And the gorgeous duelling game Unmatched Jurassic Park: InGen vs Raptors, the latter of which is getting another release pitting Dr. Sattler and co against the Big T.
Outside of official products, numerous dinosaur theme park games have also since been released. We’ve had drafting dinosaurs with Draftosaurus, roll and write parks with Welcome to Dino World and massive multicoloured worker placement darling, Dinosaur Island.
With more and more games taking inspiration for one of the worst managed zoos in fiction, it’s only fair that the film that started it all is preserved in board gaming history. May it be remembered for millions of years too.
