TWILIGHT STRUGGLE

-

Let’s pull out the big guns first and they don’t get much bigger than this two player Cold War masterpiece. As USA battles the Soviet Union and Capitalism fights Communism for the fate of the modern world, players play cards to activate events or carry out operations, used to bolster influence over countries or even taking military action to oust their opponent’s presence.

Knowing when to play cards for their events or operation points is crucial, as whilst events offer powerful yet sometimes niche abilities, the operation points can be more freely spent across the map, letting you twist the cards to suit your situation.

The system was honed from other classic wargames such as Hannibal: Rome versus Carthage, but Twilight’s legacy itself has spawned a wave of compelling political titles, including spiritual sequel Imperial Struggle and presidential campaigning game 1960: The Making of the President. Few other games do so well not only recreation the difficulties of the Cold War, but the impact of events such as the Space Race and Cuban Missile Crisis, adding to the sense of historical re-enactment.
