Not everyone’s trip to the zoo fundamentally changes the way the whole world thinks of video, but Jawed Karim will forever go down in history as the first person to upload a video on Youtube. As co-founder alongside Steve Chen and Chad Hurley, Karim and Co. revolutionised online media, creating a free to access and upload video streaming site, becoming one of the cornerstone platforms of social media. It was estimated in 2019 that approximately 500 hours worth of video content is uploaded onto Youtube every minute, with the website’s current net worth estimated at over $150 billion, nearly a hundred times more than the $1.65 billion Google originally paid for it.

From websites such as Dice Tower to magazine publications such as our very own Tabletop Magazine Youtube channel, thousands of avid tabletop enthusiasts have recorded countless reviews, let’s plays, event coverage and so much more, uploading onto Youtube for the world to share and enjoy, helping us spend countless hours watching our favourite youtubers playing games or even finding our favourite game from someone’s positive review. Here’s to many more years of searching and scrolling for videos.
