THE PHANTOM BANQUEST
A quest hook for giant dinner-based adventures.
Outline
Banquest, The Feast King, is the ancient god of hunger and hospitality.
In traditional depictions, twelve giants sit around a huge oaken table— bound with great straps and balanced atop a gargantuan midsection.
Each of the giants is attached at the waist to this sprawling stomach, and each has a gaping, unhinged, wildlysmiling jaw.
Despite this deeply unsettling appearance, he is longworshipped by a cult of voracious goblin-gourmands—The Sauciers of the Ochre Spoon. As they scour the land for foodstuffs, their raids have become increasingly frequent and frenzied.
They host their god in a great kitchen atop a mountain, where their finest cooks compete to present dishes to him. Elgrund Gorghuz, celebrated Orc restaurateur, judges the food and takes them down into the mountain’s core to present to the King.
Except, the King has not really returned. Elgrund and his coterie of fine-dining nobs are abusing the legend to supply Chez Gorghuz, the underworld’s finest eatery, with rosette-winning dishes. Banquest is nothing more than an old story.
And yet still, the concentrated aura of such astounding delicacies emanates like steam from a freshly-baked pie. In distant slumbering halls, the scents waft into two godly nostrils. Perhaps The Feast King will be dining with them after all...
