Take a Break Fate & Fortune

Devoted to my DESTINY

My ‘career coach’ was heaven sent and helped me to find my true path! By Rita Haworth, 62

Mum’s face was solemn as she showed me the headline in the local paper about an accident. ‘It’s Janine and Jimmy,’ she said. I couldn’t take it in. I’d met Janine Kent at secondary school in Bolton and we’d become best friends. A brilliant mimic, Janine was forever making me laugh.

But now, not long after we’d left school, Janine and her boyfriend Jimmy Richie had been on his motorbike when they’d swerved to avoid a van and got thrown off, hitting the curb. Jimmy had been killed and Janine was on life support. A few weeks later Janine died too.

I couldn’t believe I’d never see her again. One night soon after I saw flashing lights swirling around the ceiling. They gradually formed into the figure of Janine!

Telepathically Janine assured me she was well and enjoying her time in the spirit world. ‘You’re destined to help thousands of people,’ she told me, before fading away. At the time I was at catering college and not enjoying it, so Janine’s prediction seemed baffling.

I drifted from job to job in catering and retail, with no idea where I was headed. Then, when I was in my late twenties, my younger brother Glyn died, aged 25.

Yet again I was reminded that life was precious, and I should make the most of it.

I went back to night school to study sociology and health and social care, followed by degrees in community and social studies and a masters in social policy economics, then started working as a lecturer at the University of Salford.

On my first day I nervously looked out at a sea of faces – only to spot Janine standing at the back!

Not long after, a friend of Glyn’s mentioned he was heading to the local

Spiritualist church. I’d gone once or twice in my early twenties so I tagged along.

‘I’ve got a tall, bubbly girl with short brown hair with me,’ the medium said from the platform. ‘She’s someone who’s always laughing and clowning around...’ ‘I think that’s my friend Janine,’ I said. ‘She says to tell you you’re on the right path,’ the medium replied.

Intrigued, I joined a development circle at the church and was soon giving messages myself. I eventually started working as a psychic medium and healer, alongside my academic career. Then, three years ago, I took early retirement to teach other budding mediums full time.

My work with Spirit is so fulfilling and over the years I really have helped thousands, just as Janine predicted.

My book about my mediumship, Ambassador for Spirit, will be published in the Spring.

Janine was a wonderful best friend – and a pretty good career coach too!
