Titanic’s ongoing legend contains many spooky occurrences

-

Futility or The Wreck of the Titan was a novella published in 1898 – 14 years before the sinking of Titanic. The story tells of an ‘unsinkable’ British ocean liner called Titan that wrecks in the North Atlantic after striking an iceberg.

The disaster takes place in

April – and there aren’t enough lifeboats for all the passengers. Author Morgan Robertson denied precognition and clairvoyance, but the chilling coincidences in his tale shocked many.

Seafarers passing the site where Titanic went down have reported mysterious balls of light hovering in the area, while submarines nearby have apparently received unusual radio interference on communication equipment.

In 2008 members of a group called the Society of the Dead began planning a paranormal research trip to the site of Titanic’s demise. The team apparently aimed to charter a boat and recreate the ship’s last night, eating the same food passengers enjoyed, and with a band playing the music the orchestra struck up as the ship went down.

Living relatives of those killed in the disaster told The Times newspaper that the proposed trip was ‘offensive’ and it seems the venture never went ahead:

The Titanic Endeavor Tour’s last Facebook post was in 2015.

In 2012 an American man claimed his replica Titanic was haunted by a couple who may have died on the original voyage. Retired architectural draftsman, Wyatt Jason Moore, from Portsmouth, Virginia, spent more than nine years crafting his 200lb vessel, only to hear strange noises around the ship.

He also reported spotting a bald man with a handlebar moustache and a woman looking out of a porthole, just above the lifeboats.
