Take a Break Fate & Fortune

SPOOKS sparked our passion

Our romance is straight out of the movies!

Glancing at the man across the room, I felt drawn to him as our eyes met.

‘I’m sure I know him from somewhere,’ I told my mate, Laura*.

It was February 2019 and we were attending a paranormal investigation at a haunted pub in Talybont-on-Usk, Powys.

After that, whenever I looked at him, he was looking at me. And I wasn’t the only one who noticed.

‘You kept staring at each other,’ Laura smiled as we drove home.

The following day the man, Matt Davies, messaged me on Facebook and we got chatting about our shared love of ghost hunting.

‘I’ve loved the film Ghostbusters since I was a kid,’ he told me.

‘I’m not a massive fan,’ I admitted, but there was something we did agree on.

‘It’s like I’ve known you forever,’ I typed. ‘I feel the same,’ he replied.

There was an obvious spark so we arranged to meet up at another paranormal investigation at the same pub the following week.

Feeling butterflies in my stomach at the thought of seeing Matt again, I walked into the pub… and there he was, dressed in a Ghostbusters costume! We spent the night chatting and Matt asked me out on a date. We went for a walk and yes, you guessed it, spent the whole time talking about the paranormal!

A short while later, when I went to his house for a romantic movie night, there was only one film on the cards – Ghostbusters. Matt’s enthusiasm for the film was infectious and it soon won me over. I became a Ghostbusters fan, too! Then, in November, we moved in together in Brecon, Powys – along with all of Matt’s Ghostbusters memorabilia. Hats, figurines, special-edition DVDs – you name it, he had it! Not long afterwards, we even started our own paranormal investigation team, K&M Paranormal, inspired by our shared hobby and his favourite movie.

But, in February 2020, we took things to another level when we bought an old Rover hearse and converted it into an Ecto 1 car, just like the one in the film.

Now, whenever we drive it to our ghost hunts people stop in the street to look and take photos. I’ve even got my own Ghostbusters costume, which I put on when we hold charity events. And Matt wears his on our paranormal investigations. It’s a real ice-breaker if guests are feeling a bit nervous.

We’ve had lots of spooky experiences during our investigations. On one at a haunted manor house, we communicated with a tragic maid who was murdered by the lord of the manor after she got pregnant with his baby. And on another at the haunted Skirrid Inn, in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, Matt saw the spirit of a lady walk past a doorway.

There’s no doubt it’s thanks to ghost hunting that Matt and I came together. It was meant to be.
