Take a Break Fate & Fortune

The greatest GIFT

My great-grandma left me more than just her precious tarot cards.

- By Ash Sawyer, 25

Heart banging, I gasped for breath. I’d been shopping when a panic attack had suddenly gripped me. Although most teenagers feel a bit anxious sometimes, I was having attacks a couple of times a week and becoming afraid to go out.

Not only that, but I regularly spotted weird, shadowy figures no one else could see and strange multi-coloured shining around people’s bodies.

‘My mind must be playing tricks on me,’ I fretted constantly.

By the time I was 16, the panic attacks had been happening for three years. My mum, Donna, was so concerned she took me to see a spiritual healer, Psychic Janie.

‘You’re not suffering from anxiety or imagining things,’ the healer told me. ‘You’re picking up on spirits trying to communicate with you.’

Although I was taken aback, it was a relief to have an explanation. The following month, Mum and I travelled from our home in Sleaford, Lincolnshire, to visit my nan Mirella, in Southampton.

Mum must have told Nan about the healer’s words because as we were sitting at her kitchen table, Nan pressed a set of beautiful old tarot cards into my hand.

‘I believe these are meant for you,’ she said gently. She explained her mum, my great-grandma, Vilma, had also had the gift of mediumship. Before she’d passed away, she’d given Nan the cards.

‘She told me a male child would be born into the family and would need the cards to carry on her work,’ Nan revealed.

Great-Grandma had predicted my birth. But that wasn’t all…

Nan went on to say that Great-Grandma had died in a car crash on the same day I was born, 3rd December 1996. It had to mean that as she crossed over to spirit, her gift had been transferred to me.

A warm, tingly feeling flooded my body.

For the first time in my life, everything finally made sense.

After that, the panic attacks stopped and the healer taught me how to use my gift to give messages from Spirit to family and friends.

Then, in March 2020, I was meditating when I saw a blurred figure with pale grey hair walking towards me. Great-Grandma!

She confirmed she’d wanted her gift to come to me when she’d passed away.

Then she told me she was going to work with me as one of my spirit guides.

‘It’s time to use your gift to help people

going through tough times,’ she said.

I started doing readings for clients, as well as doing demonstrations and teaching students.

Now I’m also studying for a nursing degree because I want to help people physically and spiritually.

Great-Grandma is my spiritual inspiration and I often use her tarot cards during my readings. I’m really proud to be carrying on her work.

What an inheritance!
