Take a Break Fate & Fortune

Sounds good

I thought my life was over until a special kind of healing changed everything.

- By Carol Folan, 48

Iwoke up and remembered where I was, in hospital, and my heart sank. Only a few days earlier, I’d visited my GP after experiencing a strange numbness in my left foot, which was stopping me from walking properly.

My doctor was really worried and had called for an ambulance there and then. In shock, I was rushed to hospital where I was diagnosed with a lesion, or tumour, on my spine.

An operation to remove the growth wasn’t possible.

I left hospital with a long list of pills and the worrying knowledge that the numbness would probably get worse. There was little doctors could do.

I spent the next seven months learning how to walk again as my balance was so bad. I felt exhausted. Just putting on the washing machine and tidying the house was draining.

The growth seemed to be sucking the life out of me. Some days, I was sleeping up to 19 hours. I was taking 27 pills a day and a bottle of morphine a week for the pain.

At 41, it felt like my life was over. I had to do something – but what?

When I was 22, I had gone through a period of seeing angels in mirrors and felt a comforting presence near me. Now I wondered, could the spiritual world help me with my health crisis?

I decided to try Reiki and immediately felt more uplifted. But when I arrived for my second session with the Reiki Master, Cora, something odd happened. A spirit man in his sixties was with her, wearing a checked shirt and jeans.

I felt compelled to tell her about him. ‘That’s my father,’ explained Cora. ‘The checked shirt was the last Christmas gift I gave him.’

I was amazed.

In fact, I took our meeting as a sign this was the path I needed to take to make me better.

On my sixth Reiki session, another spirit was there, this time my dead friend Craig and it was Cora who saw him.

‘He’s saying the door is open,’ she said.

It didn’t make sense until time went on and I tried another healing session, this time using sound therapy.

As I lay down and the vibrations from the singing bowls rippled through me, I felt alive and buzzing with energy. I hadn’t felt so good since before my hospital stay. This was what Craig meant, I had to become a sound healer too!

Now, aged 48, the numbness in my legs has improved and, although I still suffer from other illnesses including Fibromyalgia and Functional Neurological Disorder, I’ve become a therapist myself so I can help others like me.

As they get better, so do I because the sound healing bounces onto me too. Proof, if ever there was, of its amazing power.
