Take a Break Fate & Fortune

Spiritual shoppers

What did this grey-haired lady want from me?

- By Daniela Centola, 58

Opening the curtains in my lounge, I suddenly sensed that I wasn’t alone.

Sure enough, when I turned around a middle-aged woman, with salt and pepper hair, was gripping the back of the settee.

I’d felt the presence of spirits since I was a young girl and knew they didn’t mean me harm.

But this time I felt apprehensive. She looked so real! She had a concentrated expression on her face and wore cream pyjamas with tiny red roses.

I decided to turn my back to her.

‘If you’re still there by the time I turn around, I’m going to scream,’ I said.

I counted to three, turned around quickly… and she was gone.

But who was this mysterious figure and why had she chosen to visit me? I got my answer a few weeks later when I visited Mum.

As we sat chatting in the lounge, a photo frame on the side caught my eye.

It contained a faded photo of six women wearing 1950s’ clothes.

‘Who are they?’ I asked.

‘It’s your aunties and Great-Granny Griffiths,’ Mum replied.

Great-Granny Griffiths had died when I was young and my only memories of her were as a frail, elderly woman.

But as I looked closer at her salt and pepper hair, my jaw dropped.

There was no doubting that the mysterious figure I’d seen in my flat was Great-Granny Griffiths.

A while later, I went to visit a medium after a shopping trip in town.

‘I see you’ve got your grandmother with you,’ she said, as she opened the door. ‘She likes to go shopping with you.’

But I was alone.

As time passed I found I could communicate with Great-Gran by asking her questions and she’d respond with signs.

The next time I went shopping, I was on

the hunt for a new dressing gown.

After a few hours of traipsing around town with no luck, I grew tired.

Let’s see if Granny can help, I thought.

As I tuned into her presence, the words Boux Avenue came to me.

As soon as I walked into the store I spotted the perfect fluffy dressing gown. Just what I’d had in mind.

Better yet, it was on sale.

‘Wow, I can’t believe it. Thanks Granny Griffiths!’ I said.

Now I always make sure to bring her with me when I go shopping.

She has helped me find a gorgeous evening dress and a pair of blue and white trainers.

The items are always really good bargains too, which makes sense because I’ve been told she was a very thrifty lady during her time on Earth.

I feel so lucky that my Great-Gran chooses to connect with me — it’s an added bonus that she’s a real bargain haunt-er!
