The best job in the world

Cathy' s secret wasn' t as safe as she thought it was¼

- by Elizabeth Dale

Cathy lay back and smiled to herself. Bliss! That' s how she would describe her life at the moment. Complete and utter bliss.

While the rest of the UK was suffering through a cold, wet, grey winter, here she was with blue skies, a blue sea, a beach of almost pure white sand and Daniel.

`All right?' he asked her. Cathy smiled. Daniel was certainly a bit of all right.

Yes, thanks,' she said. Could you just rub a bit more suncream on me, darling?'

Daniel obliged. Cathy turned on her tummy and as she felt Daniel' s firm, muscular hands massaging her back, she really did feel as though she' d died and come to heaven.

When he' d finished, she just lay there, feeling the sun' s warm rays on her skin.

Penny for your thoughts,' said Daniel.

Cathy yawned. I was just thinking that my husband has the most perfect job in the world,' she said.

Daniel frowned. I can' t help but think that one day we' re going to push our luck too far. That he' s going to find us out.'

Nonsense!' Cathy smiled. How can he find out? There he is back in England, beavering away in his tiny little office, running his own company, making so much money booking other people' s holidays that he can' t afford the time to go away, and here we are thousands of miles away, enjoying another discount holiday courtesy of him.'

So, tell me, who are you supposed to be with this time?' asked Daniel.

Cathy smiled. Jackie.' Daniel frowned. I don' t know any Jackies.'

Cathy burst into laughter. Neither do I! That' s why it' s so perfect. All those times I pretended I was away with Kate or Susie or Monica, I was worried that Keith might just bump into them in the high street. But as Jackie doesn' t exist, he doesn' t stand any chance of seeing her, does he?'

Daniel shook his head. I still think we shouldn' t go away so much,' he said.

Cathy smiled. So much! If Daniel only knew. She' d been away with Mike and Steve since she' d last been away with him.

Doesn' t Keith suspect a thing?' he asked.

No!' Cathy laughed at the very idea. He doesn' t have

the imagination. Anyway, I' m doing him a service, I file a report on everywhere I go when I get back so that he can talk knowingly about it to his clients. He' s just asked me to come to Barbados.

He' s going to do a big promotion on it this winter.'

Daniel sat up and looked around him and then, with a gasp, suddenly lay flat and flung his newspaper over his face.

What' s the matter?' asked Cathy.

Over there,' whispered Daniel.

What?'

It' s Lisa from the newsagent' s. I' m sure it is.'

Cathy looked and laughed. No, it isn' t!' she said, flicking the newspaper off Daniel and kissing him. How on earth do you think Lisa can afford to come to Barbados?'

Daniel looked around furtively. Are you sure?'

Positive,' said Cathy.

Relax.'

When Cathy got bored with lying on the beach, they went for a boat trip to a deserted bay.

As Cathy stepped off the boat, the only things that moved on the beach were the palm trees, swaying gently in the wonderfully refreshing off-shore breeze.

The boat' s crew slung hammocks between neighbouring trees and Cathy was the first to claim one.

It was quite difficult to climb into it, but the first mate and his friend were only too keen to help her in.

Is there room for me in there?' asked Daniel, climbing in too.

Cathy tried to get comfortable, but with Daniel so much heavier than her, somehow she found that the hammock kept tipping her on top of him.

Ow!' he cried for the third time. Cathy! You' re too bony.' Cathy dug her knee in him. Bony? Bony! She' d never been called that before. Her perfect slender figure was a result of years of dieting. Suddenly, she could feel herself going off Daniel.

I can take a photo of the beautiful lady, yes?' asked the first mate.

Of course,' said Cathy. It was nice that someone appreciated her! Clinging tight to Daniel, she propped herself up on him and smiled one of her most seductive smiles at the camera.

The holiday was over far too soon. As Cathy packed her bags, she decided that it was one of her best.

Where are we off to next then?' asked Daniel.

Tenerife, I think,' said Cathy.

Daniel pulled a face. I' ve been there before.'

Not with me you haven' t!' said Cathy, and kissed him. Anyway, I think there' s a trip to San Francisco coming up in a couple of months.'

San Francisco?' asked Daniel. That sounds brilliant.'

It' s an organised tour, Yosemite National Park, the Grand Canyon, Vegas, Los Angeles, Hollywood, Disneyland, San Diego'

Fantastic!' grinned Daniel.

Tenerife was wonderful, especially with Karl, who was only too anxious to impress Cathy.

She couldn' t quite decide who to take to California, but in the end, she settled on Rick, who had just come into her life. He was besotted with her no way would he think of calling her bony!

California was even better than Tenerife. After four weeks of sun, wonderful

Rick, and even more wonderful sights, Cathy felt ready to go back and face life with Keith for a few weeks, anyway¼

We must come back,' said Rick. I' ve left my heart in

San Francisco.'

Cathy laughed. We will come back,' she said. I' ll tell Keith I need longer to really soak up the American culture and give him a full report on all its attractions¼ well, the ones open to tourists.'

And Keith will believe you?' asked Rick.

Yes, of course,' Cathy replied. After all, it hardly costs him a penny. All these hotel chains are desperate for publicity.'

How wonderful,' said Rick. Cathy smiled at him. I know. I tell everyone I have a husband with the best job in the world!'

Nonsense! How can he find out? T here he is back in England, beavering away in his tiny office

Clinging tight to Daniel, she smiled one of her most seductive smiles at the camera

Back in England, Keith also thought he had the best job in the world. Not only was he able to bring a little bit of happiness to all his clients as he sent them on tailor-made holidays, but he was the first to find out what new travel opportunities were available.

He always loved getting the new brochures, and as he flicked through them, the destinations really came alive to him as he recalled all Cathy' s wonderfully detailed comments.

He' d been so successful that soon he' d be able to afford to retire and for once he' d go away with his lovely wife on the surprise holiday of a lifetime. They would go to all the resorts she had loved the best, he' d just about planned the whole trip, all he had to do was decide where they would stay in Barbados.

He picked up the new brochure and was just leafing through it when he stopped.

He didn' t read the caption: Local boat trips whisk you away to deserted beaches like these¼

Instead, his eyes stayed on the picture of Cathy and Daniel from down the road, lying in a hammock and wrapped around each other in the most compromising position possible¼
