Pub unveils revamp fit for a King

A BILLINGHAM pub has unveiled its dramatic transformation following a seven-figure refurb.

The Kings Arms, on Wolviston Road, reopened last Saturday with a brand-new look and feel following a complete makeover.

Major works have been going on both inside and out of the watering hole since it closed in late February.

Refreshed decor, an open-plan layout divided into zones for different occasions, and a cocktail area are among the exciting new features at the venue, run by pub chain Greene King. There’s also a TV-free restaurant and dining area and a sports bar with 13 TVs, including one in a new outdoor pergola.

Other upgrades include bookable booths and a champagne table and a relocated pizzeria in a bid to streamline operations.

One of the biggest changes in the refurb is the gardens, which have been doubled in capacity and now feature booths, high seats, mood lighting, heating, and the pergola.

One of the gardens includes a new children’s area, featuring a climbing frame and slide for little ones to enjoy.

The other garden – focusing on adults – has a 75-inch TV, perfect for enjoying a pint in the sun while watching sports in summer.

The pub – which offers Sky and TNT Sport – reopens with the same menu, including small plates, stonebaked pizzas, and a kids’ menu.

Behind the bar, the drinks menu has had a refresh, with a new range of beers and ales, including Thatchers, Amstel and Estrella.

The Kings Arms hosts a regular programme of activities, including a poker night on Wednesdays, and Thursday quiz nights. The weekends include a DJ playing ‘Old School Classics.’ The investment has created 16 new jobs, bringing the total to 38.

Toni Jeffries, general manager, said: “Our brilliant team at The Kings Arms is excited to showcase our new and improved pub to the local community.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming both new and old customers. The renovation has given the pub a new lease of life, and we’re confident that customers will love our improved facilities, whether they’re looking for a drink with friends, a meal with the family, booking a party in our mini function room, or enjoying a sporting event, there really is something for everyone.”
