It’s not just sixth-form college students who are receiving additional financial support. This month, HSBC became the first high street bank to make its student accounts available to higher-level apprentices as well as undergraduates.

Apprentices studying at level 4 or above are entitled to perks such as a fee- and interest-free account, a

£60 Amazon gift card and discounts off restaurants and travel.

Sue Husband, director of the National Apprenticeship Service, says: “The opportunities open to apprentices are growing – from the sectors they can work in to the job roles available. Added benefits, such as access to student accounts, makes this route even more appealing.”
