COLLECTING

-

As with most Napoleonic battles, collecting to Borodino can be challenging. Period weapons such as swords and muskets are one avenue but for those who prefer a more specific link there are commemorative medals struck by both France and Russia.

One example is the French Battle of Moskowa 40mm bronze medal, depicting Napoleon on the obverse and a charging French cavalryman on the reverse. VCoinds.com sold one in mint condition for £375 while MA Shops sold one for £400. The Russians issued a Battle of Borodino commemorative ruble, with the bare head of Alexander I on one side and a view of the Borodino monument on the other. Auction house Spink sold one for $1,300.
