The Armourer

The Duke of Wellington in 100 Objects

GARETH GLOVE

-

Another one of the guides to people and events using the premise of 100 objects to do so. This time it’s Arthur Wellesley, the Duke of Wellington, one of Britain most famous battlefield commanders. However, there was an awful lot more to his life that the continental campaigns, as this potted history illustrates. And by objects, it means anything that can be show in a photo to hang the story or anecdote on, so there are plenty of buildings, fortresses and even a mountain in amongst the actual militaria. The result is that the author has basically free reign to detail the fascinating elements of Wellington’s life, such as his meeting with Nelson, his adventures in India, womanising and political career that involved running the country on his own for three months. With over 200 colour photos and excellent production and design, this is a treat for anyone interested in the life of the Iron Duke.
