East Kirkby Aviation museum plans

-

Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, the home of Just Jane, the Lancaster bomber, and a WWII airfield, has announced some information about plans for 2021, given the current uncertainty created by Covid-19. The Centre released the following statement: ‘We have been looking at what we can possibly plan for 2021, there is so much uncertainty about further restrictions and when the vaccine will cover sufficient population for us to get back to some form of normality.

We are hoping to hold our annual air show and this years date will be 7 August 2021, we will hopefully have some events/ open days before then but we are unsure on the capacity that may be allowed and therefore there is uncertainty about the type of event we can hold. We would ask for your patience and understanding when considering your event visits to us this year.

We should start taxying the aircraft at the start of April through to the start of November so we will hear the sound of Merlin’s reverberating around the site for most of 2021.

The Lancaster is currently in its winter servicing period and she has had her fuselage split in two to make a jig in preparation for the rear fuselage to be restored next winter. We have a crowd funding campaign to help with the costs of the jig production and you can support it if you would like to.’

To help raise fund the museum has a number of initiatives running from its website, including the Rivet Club (from £3 monthly), a 2021 calendar featuring Just Jane and other aircraft at the museum for £4, a Mosquito experience day, and a classic car photography day (as well as the Lancaster) on 12 June, costing £37.
