Rifle Volunteers Corps was formed as one company at Gloucester Dock with the following officers: Captain William Vernon Guise, Lieutenant John Jones and Ensign Theodore Aylmer Preston. All three held commissions dated 21 October 1859. Also with headquarters at Gloucester Dock and of one company was the 3rd Corps with Captain Thomas De Winton, Lieutenant Henry Dowling and Ensign Richard T Smith.
