Composed and arranged for the piano by James Monroe Deems, the cover of The Pioneer’s Quick Step shows against a rural landscape with an encampment, a pioneer holding an axe and wearing a dark blue uniform with red collar and piping. The caption below the image tells how composer James Deems had dedicated his work to his friend, James W Heron. 2/4 time, tells how the work had been performed by the Independent Blues Band. The Anne SK Brown Military Collection notes that the subject featured is of the Baltimore Pioneers.
