World War II Fight Planes Spotter’s Guide
TONY HOLMES
This one is definitely pocketsized, but is also full colour with illustrations of the airplanes appearing embossed on the pages. Each plane generally gets three pages, with a colour image, fact box and write up on its design and use in WWII. It cover 92 planes, from both Allied and Axis powers, with everything from the obvious Spitfire and Hurricane to the more obscure Polish PZL P.11 monoplane fighter. However, the more common aircraft actually get more space because the Spitfire, for example, has three pages each on the models I/II, V/VI, VII/VIII, IX, XII, XIV, XVI and the Seafire version I/II/III. The best German fighter of the war, the Focke-Wulf Fw 190, by comparison, only gets two entries and six pages for its various incarnations.
Still, this is an ideal pocket book to take to WWII airfields and displays to identify particular models and see them close up.
