-

Discover what’s coming up for auction with badges and medals at Bosley’s and a wide range of WWII militaria at Stamford Auction Rooms.

Bosleys’ January Military Badge Auction has had to be delayed due to the 3rd UK lockdown. The catalogue is printed and ready for posting out and bidders can be assured when this sale is held, the date will be announced on the website (due to be in March). Bidders will be offered over 500 original guaranteed metal and cloth badges, a small selection can be viewed on the back cover of the Armourer. This sale will see part of an important collection of Welsh regimental badges which will include 1st and rare 12th Glamorgan Rifle Volunteers, three RWF Volunteer Battalions, Welsh Hospital, Liverpool

Welsh, Caernarvon & Denbigh Yeomanry, various WWI rarities etc. Also there are the usual scarce helmet plates, badges, collars, buttons, shoulder titles and cloth formation signs

Bosleys is also pleased to announce that already over 400 lots are catalogued for its second

Military Badge Auction of 2021.

Consignments under strict lockdown restrictions are arriving for Bosleys’ next military collectables auction and this sale will see a fine and rare large collection of multi-gallantry medal groups. These include the group awarded to Captain Milne MC, DCM & Bar of the Hampshire Regiment, the first of his three gallantry awards being the DCM for the Gallipoli landings from the famous SS River Clyde at Cape Helles in 1915. Surviving this, he

would serve on the

Western Front, being granted a Field commission. Probably the luckiest man of the collection would be Sergeant Thomas Gardner DCM, MM a native of Glasgow who was reported wounded on five occasions, finally discharged as unfit in 1918.

For those collectors who search for the 'being there' item may be tempted by a rather battered Victorian side drum, by Potters of Aldershot, bearing a silver plaque stating the drum was carried by the 1st Bn of the Royal Scots during the Boer War. Remaining with the South African War is a fine and rare Royal Artillery Officer’s foreign service helmet, of classic shape and retaining the regimental pattern flaming grenade device to the front.

Military curiosities always prove popular and this sale will include a rare Georgian long case clock by John Alker of Wigan, who operated from 1797 to 1832, the clock face with original decoration depicting a dramatic battle scene of British cavalry skirmishing with their French counterparts as a British line advances into battle, with regimental colours flying. A very fine example that would complement any hallway.

Further details of consigned lots and fixed dates for auctions will be announced shortly.
