The next Marlow’s Arms, Militaria and Collectors’ Spring Auction is on Wednesday, 7 April 2021 (please note the change of day for future sales). The following sale will be on Wednesday, 12 May 2021. Due to current restrictio­ns, it is anticipate­d that these will be online only sales, with a starting time of 10am. Viewing is by appointmen­t only for the three days prior to the sale, however this will depend on current legislatio­n at the time of the sale. Live internet bidding via Easylive and The Saleroom.

The large Gun section will include a rare American Civil

War period, Burnside Cavalry carbine; a Model 1860 Colt

Army revolver; a Model 1849, Colt London pocket revolver; an Ethan and Allen side hammer rimfire revolver; a Hopkins and Allen, No. 5 rimfire revolver; a rare American US Model 1836 flintlock pistol; a US Model 1842 percussion pistol; a D Williamson patent brass frame teat fire revolver; a rare Springfiel­d Arms

Warner, belt model percussion revolver (records show only approximat­ely 100 of this pattern were made); a late 19th century, English 10 shot pinfire revolver and a late 18th century/ early 19th century flintlock blunderbus­s by Woolley and Sargant. There will still be a good selection of current specificat­ion deactivate­d firearms.

Marlow’s has consigned an excellent selection of items relating to a gentleman who served in the Boer War right through to WWII, serving with Paget’s Horse, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, Royal Flying Corps and Civil Defence. The varied selection of items includes his full-size medal group with QSA, 1914/15 trio and a WWII Defence medal, his WWI Royal Flying Corps pilot’s logbook, his 1897 Infantry sword (together with a photo of him wearing it), his unique flying helmet (again with photograph­ic evidence), WWII Civil Defence battledres­s mounted with Royal Flying Corps wings and medal ribbons and also various lots including photograph­s of him. The May sale catalogue will be available shortly and will include the second part of an impressive American Civil War period gun collection. This will comprise an American Civil War M1863 Springfiel­d converted to a Miller Patent breech loading rifle in obsolete calibre; a Civil War period Ballard ‘Ball and Williams’ carbine; a Model 1851 Colt Navy 2nd type percussion revolver; a scarce Eagle Arms front loading, cup primed revolver; an Allen and Wheelock double barrel percussion pistol; an Allen and Thurber & Co percussion pepperbox revolver; a Civil War period Remington

‘New Model’ percussion pocket revolver; a Morgan and Clapp, obsolete calibre rimfire derringer; a Whitneyvil­le Armoury, obsolete calibre pocket revolver and a Colt patent Police pattern percussion revolver. Other guns in this category will include an early

19th century, East India Company Cavalry flintlock pistol; an Enfield 1838 percussion Coastguard pistol; a pair of percussion pocket pistols by ‘B Guest London’. WWI period Webley and Scott brass flare pistol and a WWII German Luftwaffe double barrel flare pistol.

The Head-Dress and

Uniform categories will comprise a Gordon Highlander­s feather bonnet; a Victorian Volunteer Light Infantry Home Service helmet; a post-1953 Gloucester­shire Musician’s Home Service helmet; a post1953 Royal Corps of Transport shako; a WWII Japanese Officer’s soft hat; a WWII ATS cap; a

1939 dated Police Sergeant steel helmet; a 1938 dated Messenger’s steel helmet; a 1940 dated Royal Navy steel helmet. The uniforms consist of a WWII Japanese 1930 pattern tunic; a WWII Japanese 1938 pattern tunic; a WWII Japanese 1943 pattern tunic; a WWII 3rd Madras Regiment Officer’s service dress tunic; a Victorian Officer’s patrol tunic and a complete Scottish Piper’s uniform.
