Korean Air War

The author is also responsible for a superb brace of other aviation titles for Osprey so it’s no surprise to see the excellent production standards on this one, with glossy paper and photos throughout, many in colour. This though, covers the Sabres, MiGs and Meteors of the Korean air war from 1950-53. This conflict was the first to see jet versus jet fighter combat and was also a proxy war between the USA, the Soviet Union and China in the Cold War.

While the focus is on the air war, it’s put into context by detailing the ground operations and offensives that they were supporting. It covers the North Korea invasion, the UN and China offensives, the battle raging back and forth and the inevitable armistice. There are also appendix on pilot aces and British and Canadian crews who flew with the US and Australian units. It’s a fabulous book, both for students of the Korean War and for those with an interest in aviation combat.
