Animals have always been used in warfare, usually whether they wanted to be involved or not. This slim, pocket-sized volume takes a look at those co-opted into WWII, from rescue dogs, messenger pigeons, to camels and elephants, horses and mules. The trouble is, the book is so short that it just cherry picks a few instances and generalises everything else. It really needed a much bigger book. Also, the photos are great but some of the actual writing is fairly poor.
