Ray Westlake looks at a Bugler of the 1st Cadet Battalion Cheshire Regiment which was given an artillery role in 1920.

Recognitio­n of the 1st Territoria­l Cadet Battalion Cheshire Regiment by the Cheshire Territoria­l Force Associatio­n was dated 29 June 1910 and notified via Army Order 197 of that year. Headquarte­rs were at No. 12, St Peter’s Square, Stockport and affiliatio­n was to the 6th Battalion Cheshire Regiment. In 1920, however, that battalion was converted to an artillery role, the cadets at the same time being redesignat­ed as the 1st Cheshire Royal Garrison Artillery Cadet Corps. ■

Brass general service (royal arms) buttons.
White leather belt fastened with (out of sight) a brass universal locket-type clasp - the centre having the royal crest, the circle with the motto ‘Dieu Et Mon Droit’.
Blue filed service cap with two small, brass general service buttons.
Collar, the Cheshire Regiment’s buff facing colour.
Scarlet shoulder strap secured by a small brass general service button and with ‘1’ over ‘C’ over ‘CHESHIRE’, embroidere­d in white cotton.
Scarlet jacket.
Pointed, buff, cuffs.
Dark blue trousers with narrow red stripe.
