The Armourer

Vyborg 1944

BAIR IRINCHEEV

-

The Soviet-Finland element of WWII is a curious one because the Soviets, as the initial aggressor, carved off a section of Finland before making peace. However, this only served to force the Fins into being an ally of Germany, in order to try to push them out again in the Continuation War.

This book concentrates on the battle for Vyborg in 1944 and uses plenty of quotes from soldiers on both sides. It also sets the political scene, showing that the British and Americans were keen to get Finland out of the war. It’s laboured at times, but fully conveys the conflict and comes on high quality paper.
