By Water Beneath the Walls
BENJAMIN H MILLIGAN
The subtitle of this whopper book is The Rise of the Navy Seals, which asks the question why a Navy special forces team has expanded its remit to include raiding and kill/capture missions far inland when other units failed. So, we have both an examination of the history, the tortuous training, the rival services that floundered and were cancelled and, from Vietnam onwards, how the Seals became the go-to operatives. Packed with information, anecdotes and battles, it’s a long read but a very accomplished one.
