SOE Heroines
BERNARD O’CONNOR
Just because an SOE agent was a woman there was no reduction in the risk when parachuting into occupied France. Of the 38 French women dispatched to the continent 12 were captured and of these 10 were executed. These are the stories of those 38 women who ranged in age from 19 to 53, tasked with liaising with the Resistance or gathering information before and after D-Day. They include the well known figures such as Odette Sansom, who was tortured extensively during two years of captivity. The book includes interview notes, government documents, mission reports and memoirs. Gruelling, but utterly compelling.
