The Viking Siege of Paris
SI SHEPPARD
This sounds like an alternative history story but, in 885-886AD, it actually happened as thousands of Vikings sailed up the river Seine in search of plunder. The Vikings arrived at the walls of Paris in November 885 whereupon they demanded tribute and access, both of which were denied by Odo, the Count of Paris and Gauzlin, a fighting Bishop. The Vikings then laid waste to the surrounding countryside and put the city under siege for a year.
This is Raid 56, has photos of artefacts, contemporary drawings, maps and 3D illustrations. Fascinating stuff.
