IDENTIFYING MEDALS

-

Hello, I was told your magazine could possibly help. I have a picture of my great grandfather John Blunt in the uniform of the Kings Royal Rifle Corps. It seems to be the 1880 era and I'd like to know more about the medals pictured or any other light that could be shed on him.

This is the best photo I have of him, the original is likely gone forever. My father had it and may still have it for all we know, or maybe he threw it away or gave it to some other distant relatives. At this point, that's all we have because years ago when I saw it, I took it and scanned it right away. I think there is quite a few other pictures lost in the same group.

Ed says: We passed this on to our resident expert regarding uniforms of the Empire, Ray Westlake, who commented:

‘The medals are the Queen’s and King’s Medals for South Africa (2nd Boer War)’.
