Ratisbon’s 49th Contemporary History sale
The next Ratisbon’s auction runs from 8-15 May so there’s plenty of time to get your bids in online. So, let’s have a look at what’s up for grabs, starting with a rare piece of porcelain. It’s a BDM girl with a flag, in white, glazed porcelain, made by the SS-owned porcelain manufactory Allach.
‘SS Allach’ maker-marked to the bottom and the artist's signature of ‘Richard Förster’. Furthermore the model number 59. This item isn’t included in Ratisbon’s free shipping programme and bids start at £3,338. Remember, you’ll be adding the Buyer’s Premium of 22.5% on at the end.
If you’re looking for a German Cross in Gold, there are a few in the auction. This one is made by Deschler & Sohn, München. It’s unmarked, but clearly made by Deschler. Featuring four-rivet, multi-piece construction with lovely patina. No chipping on the enamel.
There are a number of other badges and awards from the same recipient in the auction to look out for. Bidding starts at £1,502. Let’s follow that with another badge, this time the Army Paratrooper
Badge, from later in the war as it’s made from zinc with a gilt wreath. The silver finish of the eagle has worn and the badge has general signs of wear. No maker's mark but attributed to the maker FLL. Get bidding at £834. Next on the badge front, a Panzer Assault Badge in bronze by Gablonz-based maker Adolf Scholze. Desirable early, hollow zinc production in beautiful condition. Bids to start at £375.
Let’s look at some ephemera now, starting with a Kriegsmarine photo album of a sailor serving aboard the battleship Tirpitz.
The album begins with a group photo taken in July 1943 on the battleship and is signed by an Oberleutnant. It then covers preComing war photos of his RAD service and the Kriegsmarine basic training. Included are also beautiful photos taken on board. The recipient of the album probably served as a radio operator. Furthermore there are some nice photos of the coastal artillery. There’s a total of 227 photos, making for a great record. The album comes with an impressive cover though it has obvious signs of use and age. Bids to start at £375.
Soldbuch are highly collectable, even ones in poor condition like this group to Leutnant Hans Glaser, serving with GrenadierRegiment 585. The Heer Soldbuch was issued on 1 September 1939 with his photo. His units are listed on page 4. He is wearing the Close Combat Clasp and also received the Iron Cross 2nd Class, Infantry Assault Badge in silver, Iron Cross 1st class, Wound Badge in black and silver, and Close Combat Clasp in bronze. There’s a certificate for the Close Combat Clasp in bronze, issued on 18 December 1943 and signed by a Major. The lot also includes a postwar document from the Bundesarchiv (1979) and a severely disabled ID card (1948). Bidding begins at £166.
