The House of Godwin
Dealing with events from around a thousand years ago is fraught with difficulty but the author handles the vagaries of history with aplomb in this story of the Anglo-Saxon family of the Godwins. The Earl of Godwin was a powerful figure, adviser to King Cnut, holder of many estates in England, and whose children continued to wield power after his death. Their story builds towards a climax with the Norman invasion and the events at Hastings. It all makes for fascinating reading.
