Arran’s hockey ladies continue their winning streak against Uddingston

-

Arran 3 Uddingston 1

Last Saturday, the Arran Ladies hockey team of 13 travelled to Uddingston’s brand new £500,000 water-based pitch where the top of the second division league team were desperate for a win on their new pitch.

Arran got two short corners in the first five minutes, but could not score largely due to a brilliant opposition sweeper who did not allow anything to pass her. Uddingston scored first, closely followed by a brilliant goal from Lorraine Hewie taken while lying on the ground! Anne Watts scored second making it 2-1 at half time.

The second half saw an epic battle with sheer determination from both sides trying to score, but was ultimately won by Arran as they managed to score once again leaving it 3-1 at full time.

The man of the match was Ali Hollingworth in goals and the dame of the game was Ellie Wood as voted for by the team.

Mia Walker played her first match for the Arran Ladies showing a glimpse of a fear- less streak no doubt inherited from her mum.

Phil Adams was a great umpire on the day and the tally for the Arran ladies is two games played and two games won.

Last Sunday, 14 ladies travelled to Hillhead who are top of the first division and have a number of very skilled players. After an amazing training match, Arran are now through to the next round of the West District Plate. Man of the match was Ali Hollingworth voted for by Hillhead for all of her amazing saves. It was a challenging and physical match that had Cat Galbraith commenting that she felt ‘as out of breath as Bryce on a good day!’ Susie Murchie was voted dame of the game.

Captain Victoria McNicol said: ‘Overall it was a fantastic weekend of hockey and yet another great learning experience for all of the players.’

The next game will also be an away game versus Loch Lomond on Saturday, October 3 at 2.15pm and any mainland supporters are encouraged to go and watch.
