Putting their best foot forward for charity at island Memory Walk
The second Alzheimer Scotland Memory Walk that took place last Saturday saw a healthy increase in participants this year and has raised money for various good causes.
The idea for the event is for families to come together and to make memories with their loved ones, while raising funds to support the work of Alzheimer Scotland.
While the weather might of been a little bit dull, the mood at the walk was the exact opposite, a fun and jovial atmosphere that provided a great day out for all the family and for pets and of course, some support for very worthwhile charities.
The participants started at the Douglas Hotel and after a 1km or 5km walk finished at the Ormidale Park where there were refreshments, live music and raffles and a car boot sale.
The Arran Zorbs, who were supporting the ‘Help get Orin and Olivia a home’ campaign for the twins with a lifelimiting illness called pompe disease, also proved popular.
Also at the event was a dropoff point for the collection of clothing and shoes which has been organised by Fiona Laing who has been collecting for Glasgow the Caring City charity. Fiona has been overwhelmed by the support that she has received for this initiative which arranges for clothing and footwear to be sent to the Balkan area to help with the increasingly
cold weather as winter approaches.
Last week Steven McGill took over a full van load of goods to the mainland and, with the immense support from Arran High School, it looks like another full van load will need to be taken over.
