Name change agreed at autumn meeting

-

Isle of Arran Federation SWI held their autumn meeting in Corrie and Sannox Hall on Thursday, September 3, which was well represented by the various institutes.

Anne Pringle, president, welcomed all of the institutes which were represented and began with the many items on the agenda that were discussed after a lovely letter of thanks from the premature baby unit at Crosshouse Houspital was read out.

One of the larger items discussed and agreed upon was the change of name to Isle of Arran Federation SWI which would be in keeping with a change of name at headquarters.

After a very full report of the annual show was read out by the convenor, various points raised by those present and others submitted in writing were discussed fully and any changes to the proceedings would be decided at the December show meeting.

On a positive note, the treasurer reported a slight increase in income from the show, raffle and tearoom, and that the new senior sports trophies had been purchased and delivered to Arran High School.

Future events include a Judges Day that will be held in Alloway on Saturday, October 3 and any prospective judges or those interested are requested to get in touch with Mairi Duff. Heather Gough also agreed to be speaker at this year’s rally which will be held at the Kinloch Hotel on Thursday, November 12. On the 6th and 7th of the same month, the Anstruther Gray Drama Competition in Selkirk will see the Shiskine Institute being represented in both sections. Further details can be found in September’s issue of Scottish Home and Country.

The next federation meeting will be held in Shiskine on Thursday, December 3 at 2pm.
