Glen Rosa drawing on display at distillery

-

An Irvine artist is displaying his large graphite drawing of Glen Rosa with five of his other works at the Isle of Arran Distillery.

The picture was part of a live exhibition artist, Keith Salmon, was filmed creating over a period of 17 days and is the subject of a documentary being made by Seattle-based independent film-maker, Daniel Thornton. He took an interest in the artist’s work, hill walking and the role that his visual impairment has played in both.

The inspiration for the artwork came to Keith after having created another large work of a cathedral in the German city of Speyer and taking, what he describes, as ‘a walk on a cold and misty January morning in Glen Rosa where the clouds drifted through and around Cir Mhor creating marvellous patterns of light and dark on the rocky ground’.

Aluminium panels

Once completed, the drawing was offered to North Ayrshire Council who made a full size (5m long by 1.5 m high) copy mounted on aluminium panels that has been placed in the centre of Irvine.

Keith is a professional painter based at the WASPS Courtyard Artist’s Studios in Irvine.

The exhibition, along with his other works, will be on display until Saturday, October 31, at the distillery where copies of the drawing can be purchased. Keith also has a blog of his work which can be found at www.keithsalmon.org.
