Fog heralds busy week for Arran rescue team
The thick fog that enveloped the island last week caused disruption to ferry services and also ensured a busy weekend for the Arran Mountain Rescue Team (ARMT).
On Thursday, the ARMT was called out to assist two walkers who had become disoriented in the fog in the Laggan cottage area. The team co-ordinated with the Arran RNLI, also tasked with trying to locate the couple, whose exact whereabouts were unknown.
Later, a male and female were evacuated off the hill by the Argocat rescue vehicle. Although cold, the couple were thankfully uninjured.
On Friday, the team were called out to the Glen Sannox area to assist a 66-year-old female who sustained a facial injury after a fall. She was treated on the scene before being evacuated out of the Glen and into a waiting ambulance.
The team was also called out on Sunday afternoon to assist the Scottish Ambulance Service after a mountain biker had sustained a lower leg injury in the Giants’ Grave area. After receiving treatment, the casualty was stretchered and then airlifted to hospital by the Rescue 17 helicopter.
Cancelled
On Wednesday, September 30, two ferries from Brodick to Ardrossan were cancelled, and all the remaining services were delayed, with similar delays and cancellations between the Clonaig and Lochranza route. On Thursday, services were delayed and cancelled again.
