Leaders Brodick continue to shine as sun sets on Northend

-

Brodick 4 Lamlash 2

Monday night saw league leaders Brodick host Lamlash at Ormidale Park.

Within five minutes Brodick had opened the scoring with a sublime lob from Babbies MacNeil over Peet Hollingsworth in the Lamlash goal.

The visitors equalised when there was a mix-up in the Brodick defence and the ball sneaked by Greig Adamson, allowing Ben Tattersfield the chance to tap in for his second goal in as many weeks.

Normal service resumed for Brodick when Greg McCrae floated in a free kick from a distance and it was missed by everyone in a big melee and ended up in the back of the net. Matthew Dobson had to be taken off after injuring his knee during the stramash but hopefully it is not too serious.

Young Alistair McMillan made it 3-1 when he calmly curled the ball into the bottom corner of the Lamlash net.

The visitors were given a free kick which was swung in by Sam Tattersfield and the ball struck Alan Murray on the hand as he was blinded by the sun. The result was a penalty which was converted by Sam to make the score 3-2 at halftime.

The second half was a lot more cagey and, in a similar situation to the Lamlash penalty, Danny Currie handled in the area, and Toby Wingham despatched the resulting penalty to complete the score at 4-2.

Referee Danny Head gave young Alistair McMillan man of the match after a great performance charging down the ball well and causing problems for the Lamlash defence.

Performance

A special mention also for the performance of Johnny Sloss considering he had just come home from a weekend at T in the Park.

An unexpected bonus was him losing his voice so referee Danny didn’t get as much grief as usual.

Northend 2 Shiskine 4

Shiskine continued to add to the misery on Northend’s season with a comfortable win on Monday.

John Murchie scored a hat-trick for the visitors and Gary Kelso got the remaining one on the night.

Northend’s two goals were scored by young Cameron Logan.

Referee Sandy Kelso booked Stu Lawson after he had conceded a penalty.

Sandy gave John Murchie the man of the match performance after a dominating game for the Reds.

The next fixtures are on Monday July 18 when Brodick face Shiskine and Southend play Northend, both at 6.30pm.
