Visual arts and poetry collaboration
With Arran Open Studios (AOS) literally opening their doors next weekend, organisers would like to invite all residents and visitors alike to sample some of the works and thoughts that will be on display this year from August 12 to 15.
What the National Galleries magazine calls a ‘simple but very imaginative’ initiative takes place in the VisitScotland office at Brodick Pier. Selected local practising poets have been ‘twinned’ with local participating artists.
The poet has spent the past few months responding to one art piece (in whatever form) of the artist/maker.
And the results have been most unexpected and satisfying.
Seven poets have responded to seven art works. And both the art works and the poems will be on display in the small but perfectly formed ‘taster exhibition’ which will be the pathfinder for the main AOS event.
Poets represented are Cicely Gill, Alison Prince, Jason Watts, Lorna Sherry, David Underdown, David Pendlebury and Tim Pomeroy. The artists/makers represented are Nicky Gill, Ruth Mae, Simon Lawrence, Ed O’Donnelly, Josephine Broekhuizen, Tim Pomeroy and Janet Inglis. The exhibition is free to enter and runs from Monday August 8 till Friday August 15. More information can be had from www.arranopenstudios.com or by calling 01770 600287.
