League champions take title with an undefeated season

-

Southend 2 Brodick 5

Brodick maintained the 100 per cent win rate at Sandbraes on Monday night as they made it eight wins out of eight in the league to be crowned champions for the third year in a row.

It looked like the champions had scored early on only for Archie McNicol’s effort to be ruled offside. The home team took first blood with a powerful strike from Donny Park beyond Gregor Adamson in the Brodick goal. The lead was short-lived though as Southend made a poor clearance from a Brodick free-kick. John Drummond was first to react and volleyed the ball past the unsighted Fraser Gilbert.

In the second half, Brodick upped their game as Southend heads went down. Iain Keen floated a ball in which Toby Wingham got on the end of to get his 16th goal of the season. Archie McNicol’s pace was too much for the Southend defence as he added another two goals to his account, looking almost certain to win yet another Arran golden boot. Keeno also got in on the scoring for the blues while Southend got a consolation goal through Craig Dewar.

Referee Michael McGuire gave the man of the match award to Adam McNicol. He had another superb game at left back, stopping everything in his tracks and also creating some great moves. After the final whistle captain Matthew Dobson of Brodick was presented with the Arran Dairies League shield to make it a hat-trick in as many years for the club. It is hard to see past them with the talented young team they have for future years.

Southend 1 Lamlash 2

Lamlash secured second place in the league on Thursday night in their rearranged fixture against the MBS boys. It is the first time they have finished in such a high position in almost a decade.

After only a minute gone, Ben Tattersfield had managed to break through the Southend defence while on a mazy run and put the ball into the back of the net.

After Southend woke up they started to get a hold of the game and Donny Park was on target to make it 1-1. Donny also received a yellow card for a late tackle on Sean Higgins. Thankfully Higgy was unhurt and continued to have a solid performance on the wing.

James Todd was next in the book as he mistimed a tackle on Murray Picken on the halfway circle. James made up for this though by scoring the winner with two minutes to go with a curling effort into the bottom corner. James also earned referee Fergus Judge’s man of the match award with a great display in the centre of midfield.

Shiskine 1 Lamlash 7

In their final game of the season, Lamlash made it three wins in eight days as they thumped Shiskine by seven goals to one. John Murchie scored Shiskine’s solitary goal to take his tally to nine in all competitions this season. David Copperwheat, Johnny Sloss and Sam Tattersfield were all on the score sheet for the Lamlash boys.

However, it was Grant Adamson who stole the show with his man of the match performance and another four goals to his account to put him on 13 for the season, which leaves him in third place for the golden boot.

Referee Fergus Judge also had to award yellow cards to Jordan Crawford and David Copperwheat.
