Ladies on the lookout for hockey talent

-

The Arran Ladies hockey team are already preparing for the new season and are looking for new members who might be interested in joining them.

The club was promoted up the ranks after winning the Scottish Hockey West District Fourth Division last season. Training is open to any females, at all levels of fitness, experience, (even none), size and shape. Current club members range from 12 to 62 so age does not matter as enthusiasm and spirit is more important.

A club spokeswoman said: ‘Being part of the club instantly introduces you to a variety of people from all over the island. We want to have fun and enjoy our activity with anyone who is interested in trying a new sport, returning to it, or who is enthusiastic and willing to give it a go. Should newcomers wish to try out for the team, this year we will be playing in West District Third Division and have 11 home and 11 away games from September to March.

Camaraderie

‘We have a good camaraderie and spirit in the group as could be seen at our stall at the Brodick Highland Games which was incredibly well supported and the human fruit machine was a really good laugh.’

The club is particularly interested in any umpires who may have retired but who still wish to support they club because they love the game or still possess a desire to grab a hockey stick and enjoy whacking a hard ball around the field.

Ladies are welcome to join the regular training sessions for fitness and fun or they can register and play in the league too.

If you are interested in joining the group then pop along to the training sessions where you will be made to feel most welcome.

The club meets every Thursday from 6.30pm to 8pm on the astroturf pitch at the Ormidale Pavilion.
