Fishermen to have their say

-

Fisherman and people from across all sectors of the Arran fishing industry are invited to have their say at the Scottish Inshore Fisheries Conference (SIFC) being held next month.

Seeking opinion and industry related feedback, the Scottish Government is collating information to develop a new model of fisheries management for Scottish waters.

With the UK’s departure from the European Union, the fishing industry will change dramatically and new management guidelines will need to be established to deal with where UK fishermen can fish, how they can fish and what they can catch and how they will market their catch.

The fifth SIFC, being held in Inverness on October 5, will allow delegates from a cross-section of inshore fishing interests to make their views known.

Fergus Ewing MSP, cabinet secretary for the rural economy, will open the conference and give the keynote speech. A second plenary, in the afternoon, will provide a forum to discuss the Scottish Government’s plans for taking forward work on the future of fisheries management in Scotland.
