‘I commend the team for their commitment’
The university team came out explosively in the second half, and continued to break down Arran’s attacks, turning play over and counter-attacking. Arran really struggled in the second half of the game, having played the day before and dealing with the continuous onslaught from a very strong and skilful opposition, the Arran team were just completely worn down. Glasgow University secured a further three goals before the final whistle, leaving Arran defeated with a 4-0 scoreline. Glasgow University voted Ellie Wood as dame of the game.
Arran captain Lorraine Hewie said: ‘ I commend the team for all their hard work and commitment over this weekend. As a team we knew we were evenly matched with Hillhead and Glasgow University was always going to be really tough opposition, so the results have not come as a surprise.
‘Playing these two teams in a doubleheader was exhausting. Well done to those who played, you never gave up and gave your all. Congratulations to Ali McKie and Ellie Wood, who were awarded dame of the game over the weekend, both well deserved.
‘The team would like to thank Pauline Reid for umpiring, the Ormidale Hotel for hosting match teas and thanks to all the supporters over both days,’ she added
Arran Ladies had been due to play GHK 4s at home today (Saturday) but the game has been cancelled due to the weather, with GHK conceding points.
